Once upon a time there was a very scary episode of CSI. In this episode, I learned what a "furry" is. I haven't been the same since.
I'm not going to get into what a furry is... If you don't know, just embrace that and go on about your business. Just stop reading right now and check back again later.
I'm sure that not all furries are created equal, and not all are killers with, ahem, questionable social behaviors, but I am a very fearful person, so I have decided to err on the side of caution on this one.
As a result of this episode of CSI I make every attempt to avoid costumed people (with the exception of the UT mascot, Smokey.... He has to be harmless, I just know it.) I try to avoid things like the circus, parades and Chuck E. Cheese, which just has to be a hotbed of furriness.
So imagine my utter dismay when I was at a professional conference last year and lo and behold... I turn around and notice a man with a tail, TAIL, in the food court. My palms were getting sweaty and my heart was racing. Out of the corner of my eye I notice a man with no shirt but a painted mane of fur on his bare chest. Holy bananas.
I went back to the hotel to discover that a national furry convention was being hosted at the hotel across the street. How's that for irony. I then decided that I would not leave the hotel unless the building became engulfed in flames. Better safe than sorry.
So, how does one become a furry? This thought has been nagging at me. I have a cute little bear coat for my son to wear next winter, but a coworker pointed out that this may set him on the path of furriness. I couldn't bear the thought (no pun intended) that I could contribute to this. Do I dissuade him from dressing up at Halloween? Do I not let him watch the three little mice on BabyFirst TV? I don't have the answers, but I do know I am worried about putting that little hooded jacket on him for the first time.
'Furries' are freaky as flip! I am not at all a fan and I'm very glad to know that somebody who is near and dear to my heart holds the same degree of wariness for such creatures. I'm so skittish, Pikey the Bear scares me!
ReplyDeleteNothing is bad about furries. A furry is just someone who has a love for anthropomorphic animals, not bad

Deletewow wow guy's... I just googled for some pictures of furries and I got to this site, and read this thing... come on... That csi episode was only telling about the worst part og being a furry. That were those creepy people who wan't to search for their inner animal, and have sex while in costumes and all that. In my opinion I think they should never call themselves furries... Most furries just want to have fun in their costumes of their own "fursona" as they call it, a caracter they made themselves. they actually just want to meet some new people with the same interrests as themselves... in the world of furry-fandom there is normally no prejudice, no ones rascists, no one has homofobia, they just talk, and have fun with eachother.... I hope you will think about it again, and please don't be mad at me for writing this to you, I just thought that I had to tell you the truth. most furries are harmless. and the only thing most furries look at that has something to do with sex, is something called yiff, it's like hentai and porn, just with animal creatures. well I think yiff is discusting, but some like it, like some like hentai... so...
ReplyDeleteAll a furry is is someone with a love for anthropomorphic animals as you said most dont have sex let alone a mursuit and it really isnt bad
DeleteI'ma furry and have met many furrys in my live. But non were interested in gross stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteThe people i know who are into furry & porn are more after drawings, cartoons or short movies. But the costumes are just for fun. :B
Finally another furry!! I think it is disgusting that so many people get to learn what a furry is by nasty things like the fur in loathing episode on csi. I hope my comments will change their mind
DeleteElla, if you could do us all a favor and kill yourself, that would be great. Now, for those still reading, I am a relatively sheltered boy, I sifted through some "furry" art and found it harmless. Some was kinky, some was a bit mindboggoling, but the clean stuff is cute, entertaining, and makes for a pleasurable peice of art. Only a small fraction of all furries actually wear fursuits and I find that as a group they are harmless yet possible a bit more relaxed when it comes to sexuality and relationships. This is a fandom that does not discriminate on looks, and does not prosecute you on your religious values, that is unless you picket a convention in which case what can you expect? All in all there is no earthly way to stop your child from "going-furry" and no reason to think that it would be bad if they did. The furry fandom is a place where all people can find a meaningful relationship if not a whole mess of friends tailored to their likes and hobbies.
ReplyDeleteTo the person who made this. You. Are. Disgusting. I cant belive you would flipping not want your kid to be a furry just because a episode says they are bad. Your parenting skills are horrible. If your kid is a furry than there is no way to stop them. All a furry is is someone who has a love for anthropomorphic animals and there is nothing wrong with that. Pretty much no furrys even have fursuits. Why wouldnt you want your child to be part of a great community that doesnt discriminate against anything? I hope this changes your closed as heck mind!
